About Heidelberg

Heidelberg is little big city located in the Upper Rhine Lowlands, one of the warmest regions in Germany. It is well known for its Ruprecht-Karls University, which is the oldest one in Germany and - more important for the students – won the price for Germany’s best refectory multiple times. The Old Bridge (which is actually called “Karl Theodor Bridge”, but nobody says that) with its medieval bridge gate as well as the famous Renaissance castle make Heidelberg a regular guest on all “Germany’s best tourist destinations” hit lists.
Romantically situated between the in the Odenwald uplands (which literally translates to “forest of odes”) and the river Neckar, Heidelberg is also attractive for hikers and bikers who want to enjoy the view on the old town from the philosopher’s way or explore the nature around the Königsstuhl (“king’s chair”), Heidelberg’s highest point. No wonder Heidelberg was the eponymous city for a famous German song called “I lost my heart in Heidelberg”.

About the Conference Venue – University of Education Heidelberg

Founded nearly 600 years after the Ruprecht-Karls University, Heidelberg’s University of Education was one of the first academic institutions in Germany with a dedicated focus on pedagogy and didactics. Today, the “Pädagogische Hochschule” (PH) is the coworking-space, learning environment and meeting point for more than 4000 aspiring elementary, middle school and special-needs education teachers, educational scientists or e-learning experts.

Getting there:

SnapCon will happen in the original PH building – Keplerstraße 87, 69120 Heidelberg

by tram:

take tram 5 or 23 to “Blumenthalstraße”. Walk along the actual Blumenthalstraße until you get to the old PH on the corner of Blumenthalstraße and Keplerstraße (about 300 m).

by bus:

exit bus 31 at “Mönchhofschule”. Then walk northward on Keplerstraße for about 400m.

by car:

we do not recommend coming by car as parking space is extremely limited around the conference venue. If you want to come by car anyway, change to Autobahn A656 either at interchange Heidelberg (coming from A5) or interchange Mannheim (coming from A6). Follow B37 to the Ernst-Walz bridge where you cross the Neckar. Follow Berliner Straße northward. Then turn right into Mönchhofstraße. Follow Mönchhofstraße to turn left into Keplerstraße.

 Accomodations:

If you need a recommendation for housing in Heidelberg, here goes:

  • We reserved a contingent of rooms in the mille stelle Hotel Heidelberg: (-> Homepage)
They have Single Rooms for 79 €/ night
Double Rooms for 89 € /night

The mille stelle is a business hotel that does not serve breakfast and does not have a bar. However, as this is pretty close to the city center, there are plenty locations to
get food or grab a drink. Also it’s 250 m away from the tram (Seegarten, number 5 and 23) that gets you to the conference venue and about 300 m away from the old town.

If you want to book some of the rooms, just write an e-mail to Diese E-Mail-Adresse ist vor Spambots geschützt! Zur Anzeige muss JavaScript eingeschaltet sein! with the reference “Snap! Konferenz”.
We reserved the rooms from September 22nd – 26th. If you plan to arrive earlier or leave later that’s also no problem. Just write it in the E-Mail.

  • We also booked the last 4 double rooms in the Youth Hostel in Heidelberg for those with a small budget. (->Homepage)
They are around 50 € per night (40€ per night for the room + 27€ for a membership in the European Youth Hostel association).
If you are interested in one of these rooms please write an e-mail to jadga.huegle(at)sap.com and I will take care of the booking.

  • For those with a higher budget, we recommend the following hotels:
